I've written a lot about belts on this blog, so today is going to be about how to belt things without belt loops- namely, dresses. When my mom and I were going through her closet we came across this gem of a dress, a piece that I had pressured her into buying because it looked fantastic on her, but still had the tags on (almost two years later).
The Little Black Dress is heralded as the fashion staple for all women, but the real key to the success of the LBD is in the accessories. So just by changing the belt on this dress, I was able to create two very different, but easy looks. The outfit on the right (with the red belt matching the red shoes) is classic elegance, with a simple gold necklace and the belt creating an hourglass figure. This is an outfit for dinner and the symphony or for a work-related cocktail party.
The outfit on the right is modern glam. I re-purposed this fantastic, sparkly necklace as a belt (look for something like this or this) and kept the red shoes for a pop of color. Wear this out on New Year's Eve or for your semi-formal holiday parties. This dress may only be a simple cotton jersey, but with a few little touches, it will be your most comfortable way to turn heads at every event you go to.
